The Birthday List // 52 Weeks of D.I.Y.

52weeksdiyOne of my Birthday List goals was to spend time each week working on (and hopefully completing) a D.I.Y. project. Luckily I have friends who are as into getting crafty as I am and DIYing has become a regular summer pastime of ours. Sometimes we’re successful, like our bad ass tie-dyed panties, and others we fail massively – like the tissue paper bowls turned soggy messes.

My idea behind the challenge was to really stretch my D.I.Y. muscles, take on new projects, and learn a few techniques. Mostly this hasn’t been happening as I’ve been staying in my comfort zone of jewelry making. That’s why I’m creating a new series: 52 Weeks of D.I.Y. Each week I’ll be sharing a tutorial I’ve tried, either one I came up with myself or something I’ve found on the blogosphere. By sharing my creations with you, I think I’ll be motivated to try a wider variety of projects.

1To kick things off, last week I came up with an idea for turning an air mail envelope and some scrap paper into a travel journal. I’ve shared the tutorial on Alli’s blog, in case you want to make your own – it’s super easy and the end result is pretty darn cute.

What have you D.I.Yed recently? Are there any awesome tutorials you’ve found that you think I should try out?

  1. The only DIYing I’ve done in the past month was turning a thrifted maxi dress into a cute little day dress and changing the hem and neckline of a Calvin Klein dress. A lot of work, but not a huge transformation. I like your tie dye underwear! Is it weird to say you like someone’s underwear? Oh well.

  2. This is an awesome Idea. I love DIY but I must admit that I don’t actually get around to doing much of it. I can’t wait to see some of your DIY posts and get inspired. I enjoy looking at pinterest for DIY ideas and projects!
